70 years old female presented with claudication pain in her right lower limb. Peripheral angiogram revealed complete occlusion of Anterior Tibial Artery - one of the major blood vessels of the leg. She underwent successful peripheral angioplasty with bounding pulse post procedure. Peripheral angioplasty is a minimal invasive procedure where in the blocked arteries are opened with a balloon catheter inserted via the blood vessel in the thigh. Dr Kumar Kenchappa, on of the best cardiologists in Bangalore says that Peripheral artery disease is common and affects one among eight people aged 40 years or more. It can be prevented by stopping smoking, strict control of blood sugars and regular exercise. In case of severe symptomatic disease , peripheral angioplasty is the treatment of choice and is minimally invasive and safe procedure.
